The local runner makes an outbound connection, exposes only named workspaces you choose, and executes a fixed set of KiCad operations.

Pair from ChatGPTThe runner prints an 8-character pairing code. No inbound ports or router changes are required.

Bounded workspacesOnly explicitly shared workspace aliases can be addressed; arbitrary filesystem paths are rejected.

Asynchronous jobsChatGPT queues a KiCad operation through the hosted relay, then reads the returned result when the local runner finishes it.

Files stay local by defaultThe relay receives job metadata and bounded results, not a silent upload of your whole KiCad project.

KiCad workstation: Windows, macOS or Linux with KiCad and the KiCad Agent runner.

ChatGPT control surface: the remote MCP architecture is designed for phone, web and desktop. The current raw personal-plugin package may still be labeled Desktop only when it directly declares an MCP server; the mobile personal-plugin path requires an App/Site-backed binding instead of a raw MCP manifest.
